Disease
diagnosis and prevention is the key to success in
aquaculture. Shrimp aquaculture is prone to several
viral and other microbial diseases, therapeutic
interventions such as vaccines and chemotherapy have not
been effective yet. Disease prevention by pathogen
exclusion remains the only option for successful shrimp
farming. Molecular diagnosis by Polymerase Chain
Reaction (PCR) is the most sensitive and a rapid
diagnostic tool for screening and exclusion of shrimp pathogens.
Padmanabha
Labs is a pioneer in application of PCR technology for
shrimp disease diagnostics in India. The company
specializes in PCR based shrimp and Fish disease
diagnosis and turnkey PCR Lab installation and
operation. Padmanabha Labs started in 1998 with their
first Aquatic Diagnostics and Analytical Services Lab at
Ongole, AP, India, it operates 4 commercial PCR labs at
different locations along the east coast of India
catering to the shrimp farming industry. The company has
installed several PCR labs in shrimp hatcheries on a
turnkey basis.
